Welcome Mater! Sometimes rescue means helping an animal AND giving their person peace and comfort. This handsome Basset's elderly owner rescued him as a Covid puppy who was given as a gift and then crated all the time when owner went back to work. We actually neutered this guy through our affordable spay/neuter program for her a few years ago. She loves him so much but her own health is failing, she can no longer care for him, and in her own words, she knows she won't be around long on this earth and she wants him to have a happy life. His person described Mater as very loving and sensitive. Good with people, cats and other dogs. He greeted our resident cats very sweetly and were told he and the cat in his previous home cuddled a lot. He lived peacefully with a tiny Yorkiepoo (who her daughter will adopt after she passes). A dog walker came occasionally for a half hour walk, which he loved, and he gets playful zoomies in the house for a few minutes but he's mostly pretty chill. House trained and uses a dog door. He alerted his owner in the middle of the night to a dog drowning in the creek behind them. Then he laid next to the dog all night as they cared for him. Mater previously slept in bed with his person and is used to being with his person all the time, but he is crate trained and did well in a cozy crate overnight here. He's good in the car, at dog park and on walks although he does pull on leash at first. He's a bit chunky and we're guessing him at 60-70 pounds but he needs to lose a few. Mater is approx 5 yrs old and a very good boy. Available soon.
