Meet Alfie, a 92lb XL American Bully with a very soft heart Alfie is a big dog with an even bigger capacity for love, though right now he is still learning how to feel safe. He came into the shelter with his buddy, a Frenchie who was adopted quickly. Since then, Alfie has been trying to adjust on his own, and it has been a lot for him. He is currently housed in a building that is inaccessible to the public, which means he may be overlooked. He will not be the dog you happen to pass by.... He will not be the dog you happen to pass by. You have to ask for him, and he is absolutely worth that extra step. A gentle and sensitive soul American Bullies are known for their emotional sensitivity, and Alfie is a perfect example. He feels everything deeply - you can just tell. The shelter environment can be overwhelming, so he presents as very scared, but not at all aggressive. He is simply unsure of what is going on around him. When he begins to relax, you see glimpses of who he truly is. He leans into gentle affection and responds beautifully to kindness. He seems to enjoy slow, soft touches, especially ear scratches, chest rubs, and chin strokes. He also loves treats! Hot dogs and pup cups are his favorites, and he takes them with remarkable gentleness. Even when he is nervous, he is careful and polite. Understanding his breed Alfie is an XL American Bully, a breed that is often confused with pit bull type dogs. While they share some physical similarities, American Bullies were intentionally bred to be companion animals. They are typically very people focused, affectionate, and emotionally in tune. Where some people expect toughness, dogs like Alfie are actually incredibly tender. They thrive on connection, reassurance, and stability. His sensitivity is not a flaw. It is part of what makes him such a deeply loyal and loving companion once he feels safe. What Alfie needs Alfie will do best in a calm, patient home with someone who understands that trust takes time. He does not need pressure or high expectations. He needs someone who will move at his pace, offer consistency, and show him that the world can be a safe place again. Because he is not in a public area, Alfie will be easy to miss. But he is not a dog who should be overlooked. With the right person, he has all the potential to become an incredibly devoted companion. If you are willing to take the time to meet him where he is, Alfie is waiting.
