Palo Santo, a Mixed Breed for adoption

Palo Santo, 1 yr 2 mo (M)

Mixed Breed

You haven't seen anything til you've seen Palo Santo walking down the street with a stuffed corn cob ?? in his mouth'ears flopping up and down, eyes shining bright. Adorable yet also handy, it's a technique to keep Palo from biting the leash like a toy, instead redirecting that urge to an actual plaything. And he catches on immediately to it, as soon as you show him what to do.... And he catches on immediately to it, as soon as you show him what to do. Once he's in a stable home with regular exercise, away from the stresses of the shelter, he will likely grow out of this habit. And then you'll just have a really cute dog walking down the street with a stuffy in his mouth! This very good boy also knows some of the basic commands and he's a very willing student to learn more; he just needs somebody to believe in him and give him that consistency and patience that he deserves! His other very cute habit is chasing shadows, though he'll need some help to make sure it doesn't become obsessive-compulsive. It's possible someone played with him with a laser pointer at one point in his life but that can create a deep feeling of dissatisfaction in animals, as they try to catch something they'll never achieve. Palo Santo has potential to live with other dogs; while staff had to try a few times before they found a suitable match for him, it's not clear whether that was Palo or the dogs he was being introduced to meet. He has shown on a few occasions that he is respectful and politely communicative with both male and female dogs'and then he just wants to play! He does not have leash reactivity and he met other dogs calmly through a fence, too. If you do have other dogs at home, it is always recommended to conduct slow, integrated introductions. Palo Santo is an extremely handsome boy with the sweetest face and a really goofy side that comes out pretty quickly.
