Jackie!! The Deep Sigh.... There's a point after being rescued where a dog starts to decompress and realize they are safe. Theres a very deep sigh, where the tension of weeks or months or even years of stress starts to leave the body. The eyes close and the dog fully relaxes. I've probably seen it a thousand times in 40 years of rescue and it still touches me just as deeply.... Jackie!! The Deep Sigh.... There's a point after being rescued where a dog starts to decompress and realize they are safe. Theres a very deep sigh, where the tension of weeks or months or even years of stress starts to leave the body. The eyes close and the dog fully relaxes. I've probably seen it a thousand times in 40 years of rescue and it still touches me just as deeply. Jackie spent 11 months in the shelter kennel (thank you staff and volunteers for working to make her stay as comfortable as possible) and a brief, miserable stint at Miranda's "Rescue" where the dogs receive zero comfort, bedding or attention according to witnesses. Jackie giving the deep sigh brought me to tears. Jackie was on the property when the last group of dogs were shot and killed and dumped in a mass grave. Without a doubt she would have joined them within a week or two, had two very brave women not exposed the truth. The situation at Miranda's haunts me. I lay awake grieving for the dogs and for the people who thought they were doing the right thing. A shelter volunteer who loved Jackie and paid for her to go to Miranda's reached out, so thankful she's safe. She's one of the lucky ones. The very few. Jackie is a wonderful dog who plays hard and doesn't have a lot of body awareness but she's affectionate and responsive and after exercise shes calm and settled and happy to snuggle in the couch. Jackie has been here less than 24 hours and in that time she hugged her shelter transport guy goodbye, greeted foster mom sweetly, ran and played ball (she LOVES the big hard Jolly Ball), ate a good dinner, watched tv cuddled on the couch with foster mom and dad, and slept in a warm soft bed in the house all night like a good girl, for the first time in at least ten months, and possibly ever. She met other dogs politely and ran and played with them. She's a very strong dog, but also sensitive and highly trainable and will thrive with good leadership, exercise, and continued training. Jackie is a pitty type mix of about 55 pounds and 2 years old. She will be available for adoption soon. Check back for more. To apply visit the link to our website on our profile.
