He gets so excited when he meets someone new that he seems to forget his manners and jumps on them'as if he wants to crawl into his new friend's lap. This can be overwhelming for new friends, but Charlie means well and seems smart even to learn to stay down.Charlie was a great running buddy. He had no problem with maintaining a jogging pace (we went four miles and mostly jogged, with a couple walking and sniffing stretches thrown in). He did a remarkably good job staying at my side and didn't pull or dart away from me while we were running. He does like to make a lot of stops to sniff when he's walking, but that was not a problem. He loved the river, where he had a chance to wade for a few minutes. The only concern was his jumping on people (described above). He seems great with other dogs. He seemed interested in other dogs that we saw on our walk'and pulled a bit in an attempt to say hello'but never barked or growled. He knows some tricks (sit and down for sure) and seems motivated to learn more, given that he loves treats and is super gentle about taking them.We ran along the river and across the Tower Bridge. Then we ran along the river in West Sacramento, under the I St bridge and along the levee. We then headed back and went to Franquette for breakfast. There were a couple of other dogs there who Charlie seemed excited to meet. He also met a few new friends. Other than getting over excited, he was great with new people and very popular. After our snacks, we went over to the river and Charlie got in the water up to his chest to cool off a little. He seemed to love the water! We then headed back to the shelter and said goodbye.
