Rheta!! Our darling Rheta is back with us. This stunning Australian Shepherd/Border Bollie type girl was originally found living all alone on the streets and presumably abandoned, with no collar, tag or chip. She was too afraid to go to anyone but rescue angels were finally able to catch her in a trap and took her in and cared for her and searched unsuccessfully for an owner until she could make her way to Dogwood.... Rheta!! Our darling Rheta is back with us. This stunning Australian Shepherd/Border Bollie type girl was originally found living all alone on the streets and presumably abandoned, with no collar, tag or chip. She was too afraid to go to anyone but rescue angels were finally able to catch her in a trap and took her in and cared for her and searched unsuccessfully for an owner until she could make her way to Dogwood. Rheta is probably somewhere around 8-12 months old and weighs about 35 pounds. When she came to us she was extremely unsocialized, unaccustomed to human touch and had never been taught basic skills like leash training. But she was gentle and easy to handle and clearly wanted to trust. She learned leash training, crate training and house training quickly in our care and was adopted. Sadly she is now back with us. There were issues from digging to avoiding the husband, to the other dog being unhappy but the deal breaker was that she chased the cats. Her foster home has cats and it hasn't been an issue but they are super confident and she is well managed. She also likes foster dad. Rheta sleeps quietly crated all night in her warm soft bed inside. Then straight out to potty and play outside. We're consistent about getting her out and have had no accidents. She wants to feel safe and make friends but she clearly didn't have much positive human contact before her rescue. She was initially defensive when introduced to a happy friendly pup her own age but soon they were playing. Her social skills with dogs and people are still in progress and we're working hard to help her learn and feel safe. She's affectionate and loving once she knows you. Rheta is a wonderful dog who will need a patient home with good leadership that sets her up to win.
