Franny, 2 yrs (F)

Poodle
medium

Franny Franny originally came to us as little hot mess from a shelter after being found in rough shape. Emaciated, matted, tick infested, missing hair, long nails, pale gums and more. We got her all fixed up and doing well and found her a wonderful home. Sadly, after her initial health problems cleared up she ended up having some more involved health issues than anyone could have predicted. Her adopters tried so hard but ultimately it was to much and Franny is back with us.... Her adopters tried so hard but ultimately it was to much and Franny is back with us. We're still assessing her needs and she seems healthy and happy for the most part. She has been diagnosed with mega-esophagus, a condition that dogs where the esophagus dilates and loses its ability to move food into the stomach, causing regurgitation of undigested food. It can lead to weight loss, malnutrition, and a risk of aspiration pneumonia. Management usually requires upright feeding in what's called a Bailey Chair, which we can provide. In our care we have been soaking her food to make it kind of soupy and feeding her from a raised position almost as high as she can reach ( which helps food slide to the stomach via gravity) then leaving her crated for a while. She has not had a single instance of regurgitation so far and other than needing special feeding she's been totally normal. Franny is a sweet social toy poodle of less than ten pounds. She sleeps quietly crated all night, gets along with everyone and loves people and other dogs. We're hoping to get this sweet girl the loving home beautiful life she deserves.
