Prior to this, he was an indoor-only cat, and the stress and fear from being outside likely contributed to his condition. After an emergency vet gave him life-saving treatment, he has been doing extremely well on his C/D diet with no further issues. He is very affectionate, loving, and thrives in a calm indoor environment. He will need to remain an indoor-only cat and continue his prescription C/D diet for the rest of his life to help prevent future urinary problems.A note from our veterinarian:This patient had a urethral blockage on presentation, this means that he was unable to urinate. A catheter was placed and he has been able to urinate normally since. Male cats have the predisposition to urinary blockage due to several factors including infection, urinary crystals, and stress. In this patients' case stress was determined to be the most likely cause for his urinary blockage. This is a condition that requires lifelong management, the most important being reducing stress and a prescription diet such as Hill's C/D or Royal Canin SO to prevent crystal formation. These patients' have the ability to live normal life spans but here is a possibility that he can block again in the future. Please follow up with your full service veterinarian to discuss long term management.
